The Fireflies Wonder – Yume Cyan

Posted on August 10, 2014

Equipped with a Canon 5D Mark III, Japanease photographer, Yume Cyan sees the nightlife of Japan’s, Nagoya City Forests natural beauty a little differently. Using a slow shutter speed and a little inspiration for the technique named Bokai, Yume focuses on the light trails created by fireflies to document either the chaotic or serene patterns that fireflies travel in.

The association between the forests mythological tales of fairies and Yume’s work are frequently spoke of and bring to light the context of the environments surroundings. I have seen this technique done before by Yuki Caro (See bottom of post) who approached the experiment differently from Yume’s outcomes by looking more at the chaotic nature that occasionally appear within the fireflies travel.

However in comparison to their work, Yume’s is very serene with great detail of the landscapes surroundings and attention to the light drawn fro the lil’ critters making it look as if it’s were a blanket of light resting across the tops of the trees. What do you think?
