21:21 Photo-Marathon Fundraising Event

Posted on February 7, 2014

My current project that I am doing for my educational pursuits focuses on the charity ‘the Shekinah mission’, more specifically their ‘Re:solve’ centre which attends to those facing issues with disabilities, homelessness, conviction, probation, drug abuse and so on. I have been working with them for the past 4 months and intend to do so for the next few months to establish a well considered insight towards the charity, it’s intent’s and the individuals facilitating it’s use. Matt and Jon (My lecturers at the Plymouth College of Art and founders of organisation, Fotonow) approached me, asking if I would join them and their team towards a fundraising event named 21:21 which is hosted by Shekinah.

It’s the charities 21st anniversary and for it they have launched an event name 21:21 which encourages 21 different local companies/ businesses to attend and be given £21 for the night. The aim is to use the £21 and to turn it into as much as we can (within 21 days) by hosting events, challenges, and general fundraising activities. As part of this we decided to construct our own photo-marathon and below is a written statement of our intentions and purpose towards the endeavour.

Fotonow CIC are working with a group of Plymouth based photographers to undertake a 21 HOUR PHOTO MARATHON in order to raise funds for Shekinah Mission, as part of their 21st anniversary event ‘21 in 21‘ event. An energetic team of photographers (professionals and students) will work for 21 hours on 10th Feb 2014 to make photographs in Plymouth capturing the city during this single focused period. The work will be available to seeonline and everyone that donates will receive a 10×8″ archival print made during the event.

Shekinah Mission is based in Devon and helps a wide range of adults, young offenders and ex-offenders in Plymouth, Torbay and South Devon. Shekinah tackles the complex issues of homelessness, substance misuse and social exclusion with its non-judgmental, holistic and integrated approach and now in it’s 21st year a truly amazing charity to support.”
