Scotch-tape Portraits – Wes Newman

What I find fascinating about the genre of portratiure is that its always re-inventable. As long as people are inspired and continue to have creative ideas then there will always be interesting outcomes to the bog standard portrait. An example of the creativity of which I speak of would be Mexican commercial photographer Wes Naman.scotch-tape-portraits-wes-naman-8It doesn’t really take much to have a simple idea, heck Wes developed the inspiration for this photographic series  simply by wrapping Christmas gifts with his assistant last year, when the two started toying around with a roll of scotch tape. Having put it on their faces and seeing the hilarious expressions, Wes was inspired to create whole photo series called “Scotch Tape”, where his models would voluntarily wrap their faces with the sticky medium.

Even though unintended in the beginning, these portraits may end up as commercial campaigns as well, as some local ad agencies are already giving Wes their proposals.
